This Privacy Policy will tell you about the kinds of personal information that Vodacom and its other related companies called subsidiaries (collectively referred to as “Vodacom”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collect from you as a Child and how we use or share this personal information. You will know that this Privacy Policy applies to you when you visit us on a website, mobile application, use any online or offline services that we operate, or attend an in-person event (together we call these our "Services").

    This Privacy Policy gets updated from time to time; whenever we make a change, we will let you know, when you next visit this site after an update.

    Protecting your privacy and personal information is important to us. We have therefore created certain steps aimed at protecting you, these include the following:

    • You should always check with your parents or legal guardians before giving out any information about you, especially before entering information on any website, mobile application, or online service.
    • When creating an account, we will firstly request your parent or legal guardian’s permission/consent prior to activating it.
    • In some cases, when any Vodacom product or service is used by your school in an educational setting, we may rely on the School to provide temporary consent, on behalf of your parent/legal guardian to allow Vodacom to provide products and services.
    • Before we collect your personal information or allow you to use any of our services, we will request your parent/legal guardian to give us permission to use your personal information to subscribe you to any of our services. Where we don’t receive your parent’s/legal guardian’s consent we will have to terminate your access to the service and then delete your personal information.

    We will keep your personal information for only as long as we need to in order for you to use our services and to ensure the security of your personal information.

    Where we find that we are not allowed to keep or collect your personal information, we will either delete the information or immediately ask your parent/legal guardian for their consent to keep such personal information.

    We collect and use information about you for the following reasons:

    • Provide, maintain, and improve services and to develop new content and features.
    • Create, maintain, and service your account, if you have created one.
    • Send notifications related to your account, if you have created one.
    • Send newsletters, postcards, or messages you request.
    • Enable you to participate in contests, competitions or promotions or attend events in person.
    • Respond to customer service requests from you or your parent or guardian.
    • Analyze traffic and user activities on the services, identify popular areas or features, and improve and personalize the services.
    • Process or fulfil orders and transactions; and
    • Protect our rights and that of others and comply with the law where required, including to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud and other illegal activities.
    • We collect, maintain, use and share your personal information only for lawful reasons or as instructed by your parent/legal guardian.
    • We will not use your personal information for direct marketing or targeted advertising purposes. This means that we are not allowed to use your information to try and sell you new products/services.
    • We will only build a profile about you for educational purposes or as allowed by your parent.
    • We ensure that we have the right security in place to protect your personal information or the information of your parent/legal guardian.
    • We will not sell your personal information.  If the structure of Vodacom changes and a new company takes over, we will give your parent/legal guardian an opportunity to object to us sharing your personal information with such new company.

    We may not keep your personal information any longer than we need to, unless:

    • Keeping your personal information is required or authorised by law;
    • We need your personal information for lawful purposes related to our business functions or activities; or
    • Your parent/legal guardian has agreed to a longer period.

    We may share information within Vodacom group of companies

    Where we are allowed to by law, we may share information we collect about you with the Vodacom group companies for the purposes explained in the "How We Use your Personal Information & Why" section above.

    We will share information with third parties who perform Services on our behalf

    We share information with other companies or individuals we hire or work with that provide us with professional services such as advice, business support, or perform services on our behalf, including customer support, payment services, or others who assist us in fulfilling orders, host our websites, information technology, event providers, sending direct mail and emails, contests and events, and analytics services (“Service Providers”). These Service Providers are allowed to use your information to help us provide our services and not for any other purpose.

    Right to access personal information

    You have the right to ask for a record or description of the personal information that we hold about you. You can also ask us to confirm, free of charge, whether or not we hold any personal information about you; as well as information about the types of third parties (like Service Providers) who have or have had access to your personal information.     Right to correct personal information

    You have the right to ask us to correct information we have about you if it’s incorrect, out-of-date, or if you believe we do not need such information to provide you with services. If the information we hold about you is incorrect or needs to be updated, you can log in to My Vodacom to update it or you can contact our Customer Service team at 082 135 or [email protected].

    Right to restrict use of your personal information

    If you feel that the personal information, we hold on you is inaccurate, or if you believe we shouldn’t be using or storing your personal information, please contact our Customer Services team on 082 135 or [email protected].

    Right to deletion

    Vodacom undertakes to only keep and use your personal information for as long as we need to. In certain circumstances, for example, where you indicate that your personal information is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading, or obtained unlawfully, you have the right to ask us to erase your personal information that we hold. Kindly note that in certain instances we may still have lawful grounds to keep or use your personal information even where you have terminated your subscription or withdrew your consent to certain products or services.
