Vodacom External Bursary – Privacy Supplement

This privacy supplement explains how Vodacom processes your personal information for the purposes of offering students or your child a long term career path through the Vodacom Bursary Programme. Importantly, it is designed to provide additional and more specific information to that already provided by Vodacom's privacy statement. What is Vodacom Bursary Programme?

The Vodacom Bursary Programme is an Academic Merit Bursary targeting first-year, second-year, and third-year students intending to study or are studying fulltime towards Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) qualifications that are aligned to Vodacom's priority skills.  These students might be lacking necessary resources to study further.

The bursary's key offerings cover:

  • Full university accommodation

  • Capped amount - private accommodation

  • Full registration and tuition

  • Text book allocation

  • Meal allowance

Personal information we collect about you

Information we collect about students

In order to enable you to submit your application for a bursary, Vodacom collects the below information about students:

  • Name and Surname - Basic personal information to identify the applicant

  • MSISDN (Mobile Number), personal email address - This is used to enable communication between Vodacom and the student;

  • Citizenship, nationality, place of birth - This is used to establish student's citizenship

  • Age, date of birth, copy of birth certificate - This is used to determine whether the student is still a manor (under 18 years) or an adult

  • Gender - This is required to align with Vodacom's gender equality strategy

  • Copy of ID - This is required to verify the student's details


Information we collect about parents/guardians (where a student is younger than 18 years old)

  • Name and Surname - Basic personal information to identify the applicant's parents/guardian

  • MSISDN (Mobile Number), personal email address - This is used to enable communication between Vodacom and the student's parents/guardian

  • Copy of ID - This is used to authenticate parents/guardianship

We might also use cookies (small text files stored in your browser) and other techniques such as web beacons (small, clear picture files used to follow your movements on our website). These collect information that tells us how you use our websites, web-related products and services.

This, in turn, helps us make our website relevant to your interests and needs. We may use a persistent cookie (a cookie that stays linked to your browser) to record your details so we can recognise you if you visit our website again. See the next section for more details.

You can choose to refuse cookies, or set your browser to let you know each time a website tries to set a cookie.

Vodacom will process your personal information based on:

  • Vodacom’s obligation - to provide you with the service you have asked for and the legal basis upon which we will process your personal information is contract;

  • Vodacom's legitimate business interests - when it comes to developing new talent.  We may conduct analytics or profile candidates in order to improve students' development;

  • Your communication preferences.

How we use your personal information
  • Your personal information is collected and processed:

  • For processing your application for a bursary;

  • For onboarding the student on the Vodacom system;

  • For facilitating the provision of services to the student;

  • We may share information about you with:

  • companies in the Vodacom and Vodafone Group (Vodafone Group Plc and any company or other organisation in which Vodacom owns more than 15% of the share capital);

  • partners or agents involved in delivering the Services;

  • companies who are engaged to perform Service for or on behalf of Vodacom including Vodafone Limited, Vodafone Group subsidiaries; 

  • We will release information if it's reasonable for the purpose of protecting us against fraud, defending our rights or property, or to protect the interests of students.

How long we keep your personal information for

The personal information processed in connection with Vodacom Bursary programme will be retained for a period of 5 years post contract. 

Vodacom may retain aggregated and statistical reports about use of the Vodacom bursary programme but these reports will not identify you as a user. 
 

Keeping your personal information secure

 In case you need more information on how Vodacom uses your personal information and/or maintains the security of your information, and your rights to access and/or delete the information Vodacom holds, please contact the Privacy Officer at [email protected]
 
We have specialised security teams who constantly review and improve our measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, accidental loss, disclosure or destruction.

If we have a contract with another organisation to provide us with services or a service on our behalf to process your personal information, we will make sure they have appropriate security measures and only process your information in the way we've authorised them to. These organisations will not be entitled to use your personal information for their own purposes. On a regular basis, our security teams will check them to make sure they meet the security requirements we have set.
 

Your rights

At Vodacom, we are committed to processing personal information honestly, ethically, with integrity, and always consistent with applicable laws and our values. Below we set out details on how you can exercise your rights. Please note, under certain circumstances these rights may be limited if we still have lawful grounds to process your personal information. Right to correct personal information 

You have the right to correct information held about you if it's not accurate.  In order to request a correction or updating your profile, you may contact our HR team.


Right to access personal information

You have the right to make a request for a copy of the personal information that Vodacom holds about you. The only personal information we will hold is your leader board activity which you will be able to see within the app. 

 

Right to object to use of personal information

You have the right, in certain circumstances, to object to Vodacom processing your personal information. 

 

Right to deletion

You have the right to make a request for deletion of the information that Vodacom Bursary programme  holds about you. 

 

How to lodge a complaint

Should you believe that Vodacom has used your personal information contrary to applicable law, you undertake to first attempt to resolve any concerns with Vodacom directly. Kindly click our HR team. Facebook Bundle Terms and Conditions

Free daily Facebook bundle accessed via Vodacom’s ConnectU platform

Terms and Conditions

  1. Customers can access full Facebook services upon redemption of the 30MB bundle (once off daily) through the ConnectU platform. connectu.vodacom.co.za
  2. Full rated Facebook means customers will have access to text, images and video.
  3. To gain access to the free bundle, customers will be required to have used paid-for data or recharged within the last 30 days. This free bundle is available to Prepaid customers only.
  4. After customers have depleted the 30MB Facebook bundle for the day, they will consume data from any existing data bundle they may have, from airtime or out of bundle usage at their applicable tariff rate.
  5. The depletion rate of the bundle is dependent on various individual user factors such as device used, network speed, in-app settings (e.g., high resolution and auto-play) and background data that may run while the App remains open.
  6. The initial launch size of the Facebook bundle was 15MB. After the promotional period ended, the bundle size was increased to 30MB.  

Promotional T&Cs:

  • As from the 7th May 2024, the free 15MB Facebook bundle allocation will be increased to 50MB. This increase will be for a period of between one to three months. Thereafter it will revert to 30MB as permanent offer. All other existing bundle rules still apply as stipulated herein. 
  1. There are no changes to billing and existing depletion rules will apply for data used during a paid Facebook session.
  2. By using the Facebook service and ConnectU, customers grant Vodacom permission to give Facebook periodic access to their cell phone number.
  3. By using the Facebook service, customers grant Facebook permission to share their information with Vodacom.
  4. By using Facebook through the ConnectU platform, customers agree to receive bundle offers from Vodacom. These offers will be presented to a customer on ConnectU and via Vodacom self-service purchase channels.
  5. Facebook & ConnectU platforms will be applicable to all major mobile browsers, operating systems on mobile and desktops.
  6. Top up and Post-paid customers who are soft-locked, hard-locked or blacklisted will not be able to access the ConnectU service.
  7. If a customer uses data from a Vodacom network Wi-Fi hotspot, the data usage of the paid for Facebook service should be billed to the Wi-Fi hotspot account.
  8. Facebook Messenger will consume from the free bundle first and then any paid for data bundle the customer may have followed by airtime or out of bundle usage.
  9. Vodacom reserves the right to modify or expand on these Terms and Conditions. Where such change is material, Vodacom will provide you with reasonable written notice prior to affecting such change.

Setting up your SIM Card and Connecting your Router

SIM PIN removal

Should your sim card NOT be a VT64K, please follow the prompts below to remove the PIN, before inserting it into the router. You can do this by:

  • Removing the data SIM from the starter pack

  • Inserting the Home Internet SIM Card into a mobile device.

  • Navigate to your mobile devices security settings and disable the SIM Pin Lock

  • Once this is done, you can remove the data SIM from your mobile device

SIM insertion & switching on
  1. Insert your Home Internet data SIM Card into the Router. You can do this by:

    • Opening the Micro SIM slot cover
    • Inserting the data SIM into the SIM slot
    • For more details, follow the quick start guideline included in your router box
  2. Plug the Router into a power source and switch it on.
  3. Please note that it is not advised to remove the Data SIM from the router while it is in use

Establishing a WiFi network
  1. To make sure the WiFi is enabled, check if the WiFi LED on your device is blue.

  2. Turn on WiFi on the device you wish to connect

  3. Search for the WiFi network name on your device

    • The WiFi network name (SSID) can be found on the bottom of the router, along with the WiFi key (password)

  4. Click 'Connect' and enter the WiFi key

Changing the network name and router password

  1. Log in to the Vodacom router settings.

  2. Click on Wi-Fi from the top menu and select Security.

  3. Enter the WiFi Network Name in the SSID field.

  4. Enter the WiFi Password in the Key field.

  5. Press Save to apply the changes.

Attention

Do not insert or remove the SIM card when the power is on.

When removing the SIM card, do not touch the metal contact surface to avoid electrostatic damage to the card.

The working temperature range of this product is 0~45℃, please do not operate beyond this temperature range.

Please use the adapter specified for this product to prevent abnormal operation of the machine
