Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know

1. What is Home Internet?

Home Internet is a broadband service that gives you fast, reliable connectivity without needing a fixed-line installation. It connects all your home devices – like desktops, laptops, smartphones, TVs and gaming consoles – through one router and SIM card.

2. How do I know if my area is covered?

Before signing up, check your coverage on our Vodacom Coverage Map. Enter you home address and select the ‘Home Internet’ tab and the speed you want.

3. Can I sign up for Home Internet online?

Yes, you can! We’ve made it quick and easy to get a Home Internet deal online or at any Vodacom Store.

4. How long does installation and activation take?

There’s no installation needed – Vodacom Home Internet is a plug and play service. Both the LTE and 5G services should activate shortly after you insert the SIM card into your router. For setup guidance, follow the steps in this Quick Setup Guide.

5. How do I set up my router?

Select your router model for simple setup steps:

Huawei B535

Alcatel Link hub HH72z

Nokia Sharelink Fastmile 5G Gateway

6. What if my service isn’t working after 24 hours or I’m having an issue?

Try these troubleshooting steps  for your specific router model. If it still doesn’t work, call 082 135 or visit any Vodacom Store and have this information ready so we can help you:

  • SIM card cellphone number
  • Router IMEI
  • Home address
  • Home Internet price plan

7. What can I do if my network signal is poor?

Move your router to a better position – ideally near a window and away from any obstacles that may be blocking it. If indoor signal remains weak, you may need a range extender which you can get here.

8. Can I buy voice or SMS bundles?

No you can’t, Vodacom Home Internet price plans are for data only.

9. Which once-off data bundles can I get and how do I buy them?

You can top up with 100GB and 200GB data bundles. To buy them, log in to the VodaPay app and follow these steps:

  • Tap the My Vodacom tab at the bottom of the screen
  • Go to the Mobile tab
  • Select your Home Internet number and follow the prompts

Make sure the filter is set to 30-day validity and pay with a bank card.

10. Can I use the SIM card in different device?

No. The Home Internet SIM card won’t work in mobile devices or portable routers. The only exception is using a mobile device to disable your SIM PIN functionality as outlined in the Quick Setup Guide.

11. How do I check if I have the right router?

The Vodacom Home Internet price plans only work in approved fixed routers. To check the make, model and IMEI number of your router, look at the sticker at the back of your router or underneath it. Example: Make: Huawei; Model: B612-233; IMEI: 86344204.

12. What if my router is locked to another network?

If your router is network-locked to another service provider, it won’t work on the Vodacom network.

Data speeds may vary depending on network conditions such as congestion .

14. Can I use my Home Internet as WiFi on-the-go?
