RICA is a South African legal requirement that ensures all SIM cards are registered with verified personal details before they can be used. This applies to prepaid, contract, physical SIMs, and eSIMs.
All customers using a Vodacom SIM card must be RICA registered. This includes new prepaid SIMs, eSIMs, certain SIM swaps, and customers requested to update their RICA details.

Your information is securely verified using approved systems and trusted data sources, including the Department of Home Affairs. Once verification is successful, your SIM card will be activated.
You will receive an SMS from Vodacom confirming that your SIM has been successfully RICA registered and activated.
If verification is unsuccessful, Vodacom will guide you on the next steps to complete or retry the registration process.
RICA registration is free. Digital RICA services are zero rated for Vodacom customers, meaning no data charges apply while completing the process.
