The Mandela Month Device Campaign

Terms and Conditions

Vodacom (Pty) Ltd (“Vodacom”) is running The Mandela Month Device Campaign (the “Campaign”) where pre-selected participants stand a chance to either win their share of R176 033.00 (one hundred and seventy-six thousand and thirty-three Rand) in smartphone devices  by playing the V-Up Daily game (“V-UP Game”) or accepting an offer to trade-in their 2G device for a Smart Kicka 4G smartphone for only R67.00 (sixty-seven Rand).  

All participants in the Campaign agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions:

Duration

  1. The Mandela Month Device Campaign will start on the 18th of July 2025 at 00:00:01 ("Start Date"), and it will run until the 31st of October 2025 at 23:59:59 ("End Date") (“Campaign Period”).
  2. The duration of the Campaign may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of Vodacom.

Prizes

  1. The participants stand a chance to:
  • win 1 (one) of 67 (sixty-seven) smartphone devices worth a total value of R176 033.00 (one hundred seventy-six thousand and thirty-three Rand) (“Free Smartphone”); or
  • receive 1 (one) of 6700 (six thousand seven hundred) offers to trade-in their 2G device for a Smart Kicka 4G smartphone worth R699.00 (six hundred and ninety-nine Rand) each for only R67.00 (sixty-seven Rand) (“Smart Kicka Trade-In”).
  1. The total value of the Prize is R4 410 433.00 (four million four hundred and ten thousand four hundred thirty-three Rand) (the “Prize”).
  2. Travelling expenses related to claiming the Prize are not included and will be the responsibility of the winner.

Valid Entry

  1. To be eligible to receive the Free Smartphone, qualifying participants must –
  • be a Gauteng based Vodacom customer;
  • play the V-Up Daily Game by dialling *133#;
  • receive an SMS notification with the campaign code (the “SMS”);
  • bring in their current 2G device for trade-in; and
  • Take their original identity document and the SMS to Vodaworld in Midrand.
  1. To be eligible to receive the Smart Kicka Trade-In, qualifying participants must 
  • be a Vodacom prepaid customer;
  • receive an SMS with a wiCode;
  • go to a selected Participating Store to redeem the Prize;
  • bring their current 2G device for trade-in;
  • bring their ID and confirmation SMS with a valid wiCode; and
  • show a store consultant the wiCode and pay R67.00 (Sixty-Seven Rand) for the device.

Prize Redemption

  1. Prize redemption for the Smart Kicka Trade-In will take place at the following selected Vodacom stores:
  • KwaZulu-Natal
  • Vodacom Shop Brookside Mall
  • Vodacom Shop Broadwalk Inkwazi
  • Vodacom Newcastle Mall
  • Vodacom Shop Phoenix Plaza
  1. Participants are allowed to only win once during the Campaign Period.

Eligibility

  1. The Campaign is only open to natural persons at least 18 9Eighteen) years and older who reside in South Africa.
  2. Only participants who are using SIM cards that have been RICA registered are eligible to win in the Campaign. Each owner of a SIM card(s) is responsible to comply with South African law by RICA registering their SIM cards.
  3. Participants must reside in South Africa and be in possession of a valid South African identity document or permanent residence permit or temporary residence permit valid for a period exceeding 3 (three) months for the Republic of South Africa and valid at the End Date.
  4. In the event that the user of the mobile phone (i.e., the participant in the Campaign) is not the person that is responsible for payment of the participating mobile phone account/ charges, then the prize will be awarded to the person that is responsible for payment of the participating mobile phone account/ charges.

Prize Draw

  1. Winners will be randomly selected from Vodacom’s database based on their device usage, the winners will receive a SMS notification.
  2. The Prize must be redeemed within 14 (Fourteen) days of receiving the SMS notification and must be collected at a Participating Store or at Vodaworld.
  3. All the information provided or related to this campaign shall be managed, captured, and approved by Vodacom.
  4. Should a participant not be available on the contact details provided or rejects, forfeits or declines acceptance of the smartphone, that person's right to the prize will be deemed to have been waived and the prize will be forfeited. Vodacom reserves the right to then award the prize to the next randomly drawn participant.
  5. Notwithstanding the fact that the prize vests in the winners immediately upon the determination of the results, in the event that the required documentation from a particular winner has not been received at the agreed cut-off date communicated to the winner, or no effort is made on the part of any of the winners to make special arrangements to meet the deadline set by Vodacom, such prize will be forfeited. Vodacom then reserves the right to award the prize to the finalist that is next in line.

Prize Details

  1. Should a winner not be able to accept the Free Smartphone or the Smart Kicka Trade-In offer for any reason whatsoever, the smartphone device will be awarded to the next selected participant.

Personal information

  1. User data collected via the Campaign will not be used for any other purpose than for execution of the Campaign.
  2. User data collected via entry for this Campaign will be stored for as long as it is legally required to and in accordance with Vodacom’s Privacy Policy
  3. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to, or must be understood to, unlawfully restrict, limit, or avoid any rights or obligations, as the case may be, created for either the participant or the promoter in terms of the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 ("CPA").
  4. The judges’ decision on any aspect of the Campaign including the allocation of the prizes will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
  5. In the event of a dispute regarding any aspect of the Campaign and/or the Terms and Conditions, Vodacom’s decision will be final, and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.
  6. Vodacom may refuse to award the prize if entry procedures or these Terms and Conditions have not been adhered to or if it detects any irregularities or fraudulent practices. Vodacom is entitled in its entire discretion to reject any participant for any reason and will not be obliged to notify participants that they are rejected.
  7. Vodacom and/or any other person or party associated with the Campaign, their associated companies, agents, contractors and sponsors and any of its personnel involved in the Campaign, shall not be liable whatsoever for any loss or damage incurred or suffered (including but not limited to direct or indirect or consequential loss), death or personal injury suffered or sustained arising from either participation in the Campaign or from claiming the prize.
  8. Vodacom is not liable for any technical failures affecting participation and / or prize redemption process of the Campaign. In addition, neither Vodacom nor its agents shall be responsible for any loss or misdirected entries, including entries that were not received due to any failure of hardware, software, or other computer or technical systems affecting participating in and/or the prize redemption process of the Campaign.
  9. Vodacom, its directors, employees, agents, and distributors, are not responsible for any misrepresentation (whether written or verbal) in respect of any prize nor in respect of any warranties, guarantees or undertakings given by any person other than Vodacom itself.
  10. If Vodacom is required by law to alter or cancel any aspect of the Campaign or to terminate it as a result of changes in legislation, or for any reason whatsoever, it will have the right to terminate the Campaign being offered, with immediate effect and without notice. In such event all entrants hereby waive any rights which they may have against Vodacom and its associated companies, agents, contractors and/or sponsors.
  11. All information relating to the Campaign which is published on any marketing material will form part of these Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between such marketing material and these Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions shall prevail.
