Vodacom Funeral Cover for RED Core and Flexi Plans
Terms and Conditions
- Funeral Cover Eligibility
- The Vodacom Sponsored funeral cover is only available to customers activating a new or upgrading their Vodacom postpaid line or contract to a RED Core or Flex contract.
- To qualify for the sponsorship, you will need to be taking up a Red Flexi or Red Core contract (legacy and current versions qualify).
- To qualify for the offering, the contracts you must have either have upgraded to or signed up to (i.e. duration) a 24-month or 36-month that is linked to the RED Core or Flexi offering.
- You will need to be between the ages of 18 and 60 year in order to qualify for sponsorship.
- You will need to have a valid South African ID required (green barcoded or smart card).
- The mobile based contracts can be activated at any Vodacom-branded or unbranded store or Vodacom online.
- This offering does not apply to existing Red Flexi or Red Core contracts.
- Sponsored funeral contract cover will be based on your contract value (outlined below):
- Red Flexi:
- R50–R300 → R10,000 cover
- Above R301 → R15,000 cover
- Red Core:
- R50–R500 → R15,000 cover
- Above R500 → R20,000 cover
- Vodacom fully sponsors the funeral cover premium for the full contract term (24 or 36 months).
- This promotion (i.e. Vodacom sponsored funeral cover”) runs from 08 July 2025 to 30 March 2026.
- Cover or Policy Registration
- Taking up a link postpaid contract does not automatically register you or activate your funeral cover, Vodacom will send you an invitational message of which you will need to respond to, the invitation message will be sent after your initial contract has been initiated or upgraded.
- To register for the Vodacom sponsored funeral, you will need to respond with the word “Coverme” to the invitational message, the invitation will be sent to the linked contract number.
- The purpose of notification is to give confirmation that Vodacom can initiate or activate the policy on your behalf.
- You will have up to five days to respond to the above with the word “COVERME”
- Respond with any other word other than “COVERME”, will be seen as a no response
- Based on your response” COVERME”, we will continue to activate your Vodacom sponsored postpaid funeral.
- Should you not respond on the initial message, a reminder message will be sent to you on day four where no response is received from you.
- If you fail to opt in or respond by day 5, you will no longer be eligible for the sponsored funeral
- Your policy will become active from the 1st day of the next month after successful contract activation and acceptance of the cover.
- Policy Migration and Upgrade Terms
- Where you have an existing prepaid funeral cover, we will upgraded to your cover to the sponsored one with your beneficiary and details remaining unchanged.
- Customers who have subscribed to a paid version of the postpaid funeral cover:
- Customer is allowed to retain their existing cover if they choose to do so.
- Customers also have the option to migrate from the paid postpaid funeral cover to the sponsored postpaid funeral cover.
- Upon completion of the migration upgrade, you will be sent a notification and updated policy documents.
- You will not be permitted to hold or maintain two funeral cover policies simultaneously. This means
- Only the main account holder is covered.
- You as the Vodacom customer, can only have one embedded Funeral Cover policy at a time
- Policy Activation, Waiting Periods, and Beneficiary Management
- Sponsored policy cover begins in the first month from the date the customer opts into the Vodacom-sponsored funeral cover
- Sponsored funeral cover is valid from the first to the last day of each calendar month, ending on the 28th, 29th, 30th, or 31st, depending on the month.
- Waiting Periods Upon Policy Activation, with the activation of the policy, the following waiting periods apply:
- A standard 3-month waiting period for natural causes.
- A standard 3-month waiting period for natural causes.
- A 12-month waiting period for death by suicide.
- During the waiting period, only accidental death will be covered. Accidental death means death caused solely by injury sustained during an Accident, within 90 days of the Accident, which is not related to any other causes.
- Beneficiary Nomination and Claim
- Once your policy has been created and activated, you must nominate a single beneficiary for your own life.
- In the event of your death and a successful claim, Vodacom will pay the cover amount to your nominated beneficiary.
- If no beneficiary is nominated, the claim payment will be made to your estate
- This cover may not be ceded or transferred to a third party or another person under any other reason.
- When you pass away,
- Your beneficiary will need to provide us with the relevant documentation so that we can settle the claim quickly and efficiently.
- Vodacom would need to be informed of your death within 180 (one-hundred-and-eighty) days of it happening. If we're not informed in time by your beneficiary or estate, the claim could be declined.
- If any claim under this policy involves fraud, misrepresentation or false information, such as incorrect age or relationship, your cover will be cancelled. In this case, no claim payouts will be made. We will also not payout due to self-inflicted injury & illegal acts.
- This policy agreement is subject to South African law and all payments to Vodacom Life and payouts to Beneficiaries will only be made in rands from and to a South African bank account.
- To submit a claim, your beneficiary would need to contact Vodacom on 082 178 00
- Policy Changes
- In the event that the law or the interpretation thereof changes, we may change the terms of this policy agreement. We will notify you in writing of any such changes. We hold both fidelity and professional indemnity insurance cover.

- Should you cancel your mobile contract early:
- Your sponsored funeral cover will be terminated immediately.
- You may opt to continue the policy by paying premiums directly to Vodacom Life Assurance.
- If your mobile account goes into arrears (i.e. default) or you miss paying your monthly mobile account:
- Your sponsored funeral cover will remain active until your next billing date.
- If you default or miss a payment for a second consecutive time, Vodacom will cancel your sponsored funeral cover, and it will not be reinstated.
- You will need to re-register via the Vodacom Life Assurance channels and will be responsible for premiums.
- Should you change your plan up or down (i.e. migration):
- If you remain within Red Flexi or Red Core, your sponsorship continues. In a case where you move up to a Red VIP plan, your sponsorship will continue.
- If moving out of the eligible plans, your sponsorship will be terminated, and you will have the option to continue the policy/cover at premium rates.
- When your mobile contract reaches the end of its term (24 or 36 months), Vodacom will cancel your sponsored funeral cover, as the sponsorship period will have concluded.
- Other that the sponsorship coming to an end result in the policy being cancelled,
- You as the customer have the option cancel the policy should you opt to.
- Where you pass away, the policy will be cancelled.
