Selecting the Right Roaming Option

Vodacom brings you a variety of roaming options to suit your travelling needs and budget, whether it’s for business or leisure or even for the budget traveller.

Keeping in contact (Voice and SMS)

Option 1: Take your home tariff overseas with you
Vodafone Passport

With Vodafone Passport, you can take your South African call rate with you while travelling. You now have the freedom of talking longer for less.

Suited for: Selected Vodacom customers who want to take their cellphone with them while travelling, make calls with confidence and talk for longer.

Option 2: SMS Only
SMS Roamer

By disabling your voice capabilities and only using SMS, SMS Roamer becomes the most cost-effective way to stay in touch with loved ones while travelling abroad.

Suited for: The budget traveller who is looking for the most cost-effective way to stay in contact while travelling.

Option 3: Flat rate prices
Vodafone World

With Vodafone World, we've taken the guesswork out of roaming call and SMS charges. We offer flat rate prices divided between 8 World zones, which gives you the ability to understand your call charges while travelling. Vodafone World is our default pricing for roaming.

Suited for: Any business or leisure traveller who wishes to keep in contact while travelling overseas, and prefers to have predictable, flat-rate billing regardless of their destination. In other words, no unexpected surprises!

Option 4: Roam on foreign networks and pay their rates
Legacy tariffs

If you wish to opt out of Vodafone World (Vodacoms default pricing system for roaming), contact your Service Provider. You are then charged at each foreign networks individual rates.

Suited for: Those who wish to remain on the old tariff system and are not interested in changing to Vodafone Passport or Vodafone World.
