Flat Rate Data Roaming

Flat rates for data roaming, a Vodafone initiative, has addressed and solved the issue of prohibitively expensive data roaming. With flat, predictable rates for GPRS and 3G roaming in 32 countries, you stay in control and in touch.

What is it?
The flat rate data roaming tariff is a service powered by Vodafone that affords any customer using data roaming in any of the participating 32 countries the reassurance of knowing exactly what they will be paying for the service. Now with these flat, predictable rates for GPRS and 3G roaming you have the convenience of staying in touch while travelling, ensuring your availability and efficiency.

How does it work?
Thanks to this initiative we can now offer you a flat rate that means you remain in control of your expenses while meeting the needs of your business and family, be it via e-mail, your Vodacom Mobile Connect Card or BlackBerry.

We will itemise these billing charges separately on your contract account, as we would your calls.

Check out the list of participating countries and networks and ensure you are roaming on these networks to qualify for the flat rate data tariff:

  • Austria (Mobilkom)
  • Australia (Vodafone Australia)
  • Bahrain (Vodafone - MTC)
  • Belgium (Proximus)
  • Croatia (VIPnet)
  • Cyprus (Cytamobile)

  • Singapore (MobileOne)
  • Slovinia (SiMobil)

  • The Netherlands (Vodafone Netherlands)
  • United Kingdom (Vodafone UK)

Who is it for?

  • Vodacom Contract customers travelling from South Africa to Vodafone partner networks overseas who need to stay in touch for work via e-mail and the Internet.
  • Foreign travellers coming to South Africa from other participating Vodafone partner networks who use data services.

How do I get it?
You must be a Contract customer to make use of the flat rate data roaming tariff. The service does not require subscription or activation as you will automatically qualify as soon as you roam on a participating Vodafone network. You must however have international roaming enabled on your cellphone before you travel. You can do this by contacting your Service Provider a couple of weeks before you depart.

How much does it cost?
The pricing structure is two-tiered and customers will pay depending on the type of data service being accessed as well the network.

  • Data Roaming (excluding BlackBerry and SMS but including Vodafone live!)
R17.50 per megabyte for all GPRS and 3G roaming, billed in 10kb increments.
  • BlackBerry Roaming
Up to a maximum of R150* per megabyte, billed in 1kb increments.
*Although this figure may seem high, due to BlackBerry compression technology, BlackBerry data consumption is typically very low.

Customers data roaming on any network other than the participating networks will be subject to existing data roaming pricing structure, i.e., the foreign networks' individual charges.
