GPRS/EDGE/3G

  • It is a non-voice bearer service that allows data to be transferred across mobile networks.
  • It provides you with a fast, permanent data connection on your mobile device, Mobile Connect Card or enabled Laptop, giving you the freedom to work and have fun wherever and whenever you have access to the GPRS network.
  • With GPRS you can be permanently connected to the internet and are only charged when you are sending or receiving data, which means that thinking and reading time is FREE.

You can be connected to the Internet all day and only pay for what you use.

What is EDGE?

  • EDGE is a powerful enhancement to GPRS technology and dramatically improves data throughput rates and network capacity.
  • If you want to access the faster EDGE speeds, the network must replace the existing GPRS radio with an EDGE radio and you will have to upgrade your cellphone to utilize the EDGE service. If your GPRS cellphone is not upgraded, it will continue to function at GPRS speeds on the EDGE service.

What is 3G or UMTS?

3G technology allows the transmission of text, digitised voice, video, and multimedia at data rates of up to 2 megabits per second, offering a consistent set of services which can be used on your laptop and cellphone, no matter where you are located in the world.

3G/UMTS provide flexibility and portability, allowing you to do more on the move.

Some of the benefits include:
  • Instant communication - you can make and receive phone calls, fax transmissions and send and receive e-mails, including large attachments, wherever you are so that you never have to be out of touch.
  • High-speed Internet access - you can make high-speed internet connections for web browsing and fast downloading of data files, software from websites, images or music files.
  • Ad-hoc video conferencing - 3G can be used for video calling, conferencing and picture messaging.
  • Information at your fingertips - many 3G devices also provide navigational features and access to maps and can receive television transmissions with sports events or news coverage streamed directly to your handset.
  • Keeping you organised - 3G handsets can also function as personal organisers, with electronic diaries, contact lists, and automatic reminders.
  • Never out of touch - Most 3G networks offer roaming services globally. This is the ability to access 3G services from anywhere in the world.
